PURSLANE

Purslane is one of my favorite weeds. Here it is close-up. The leaves are succulent and the whole plant is edible. I use it in salads and stir fry dishes.  It appears in spring and stays the summer. It is beginning to reseed now in a raised bed where I used it for a living mulch last year. See below. I also let it coexist with a small bay laurel I was trying to grow in a pot.

The purslane here is in front of the red nasturtium hanging over the edge of the raised bed.

Here it is with the bay.

This purslane is older and wilder. You can see its stems are much thicker.
